In my line of work, the word “service” usually implies “customer service” in the commercial sense. But there is another type of “service” that I would like to highlight here: contributing to the well-being of others.
To that end, I am introducing the Serving Causes project for 2011 that I hope will become an ongoing way to recognize and give back to worthy charities and causes.
Even during the busiest quarters, there is time to schedule pro bono events. In 2009 and 2010, I scheduled such events with the Denver Center Alliance to raise awareness for the arts and with Western Fantasy, the annual Denver fundraiser for Volunteers of America to raise money for Meals on Wheels, Rainbow House, City Harvest Food Bank, and other community outreach programs.
Through the Serving Causes project, organizations can schedule a customer service presentation at a corporate event with 100% of my speaking fee going directly to an accredited charity or cause of their choosing.
